Description: Barbarous Outrage.Date: March 2 1861

Another of those acts of barbarism which occasionally disgrace the South and shock every sense of humanity, was perpetrated in Harris county, Georgia, early last week. A negro man named George, owned by Mr. Abel NELSON, Sr., was suspected of having committed a gross personal outrage upon the wife of Mr. Isaac N. MIDDLEBROOK, and upon that suspicion was arrested and lodged in jail. A night or two afterwards an infuriated mob, overcoming the opposition of the Sheriff, broke into the prison, seized the negro, and conveying him to the outskirts of the town, there chained him to a tree, and despite his earnest protestations of innocence, burned him to death.
