Letter From Dr. Curry to Major Palmer
The following letter from Dr. Curry, agent of the Peabody School Fund, to Major Palmer, Superintendent of Education of Alabama will be read with interest.
RICHMOND, VA., Oct. 27, 1885.
Hon. Sol. Palmer,
The Peabody Educational Fund will probably make the following grants for Alabama for the year October, 1885—October, 1886:
Scholarships in Nashville $2,000
Florence Normal 1,500
Marion Normal (Colored) 500
Tuskegee Normal (Colored) 400
Huntsville Normal (Colored) 300
Teachers’ Institutes 500
The last item is in accordance with your suggestion. Get trained experts familiar with improved modern methods to conduct the institutes.
In closing our official intercourse and my connection with Southern Education, to which I have given my whole being, allow me to thank you and your accomplished assistant for all your courtesy and cheerful co-operation, and to wish you and the schools in dear Alabama abundant prosperity.
