OGDEN, Utah, July 3.The Rocky Mountain carnival began here Tuesday, the royal train arriving shortly before noon amid the booming of cannon and the cheers of the people. Rex, accompanied by his retinue and escorted by the Louisiana rifles, was received by the major and tendered the keys of the city. Mayor Kissel and Governor Thomas made the speeches of welcome. W. G. Pierson, on behalf of the Order of Monte Cristo, delivered the oration of the day. There was a grand banquet in the evening in the carnival palace. Tuesday night Rex was crowned King of the Monte Cristos with elaborate ceremonies, after which the cowboys took possession of the palace for their grand ball.
