Trouble at Rutherfordton, N. C.
CHARLOTTE, N. C., Aug. 5.—While the town marshal of Rutherfordton was attempting to arrest a negro named McDowell, on Saturday; he was set upon by a mob of over twenty negroes armed with stones, pistols and clubs. The officer was pretty badly used up, and his prisoner escaped. He fired into the crowed and wounded several of the negroes. There is a good deal of excitement over the affair, and more trouble is feared.
