Stealing a march on their many friends in order to surprise them with the announcement of their marriage, Miss Marie E. LORENZ of _00 South Charles street, and John M. SCHALE, Jr., of 301 East Sixth street, eloped to Springfield, Ill., August 8. Friends and relatives were not told of the wedding until Tuesday.
Laying their plans with all secrecy the popular couple went to Springfield after stating they were going on a Mississippi River boat excursion. They were married by Prof. WESSEL of the Concordia Seminary.
The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Addie CRAIG of 2224 West Main street. SCHMALE, who is a son of Mr. and Mrs. John SCHMALE, Sr., of East Sixth street, has been employed for several years as a title examiner at the Title Guaranty Trust Company, St. Louis. His bride is a graduate of the Carlinville, Ill., high school, and has a host of friends in Carlinville and Belleville, who wish her much happiness in her wedded life.
Mr. and Mrs. SCHMALE will make their home in Belleville.
