Heavy Cold Forces Calve To Quit Keith’s Bill
Mme. Emma CALVE has retired from the bill at the B. F. Keith Theater because of a heavy cold she contracted Tuesday which has forced her to place herself under the care of a physician. Her place will be taken by Nora BAYES, who is expected to arrive in time for the matinee today.
Mme. CALVE was ill Tuesday evening, but insisted on singing and declared she would continue through the week. Yesterday afternoon her physician forbade her to sing just before it was time for her to go on the stage.
Manager ROBBINS announced the omission of the great singer from the bill to the matinee audience and also announced that it was not known whether Mme. CALVE would be able to continue the week. He stated that any person in the audience who wished to do so could return at any of the performances during the week, the seat coupons being accepted for standing room admission.
Last night, when the diva again failed to appear, the announcement was made that the price paid for tickets would be returned to those who were disappointed.
Miss BAYES will appear in her song number, which was well received in New York and the other theaters on the Keith circuit.
