Escapes Prison Camp; Gets Certificate Here

With a certified declaration of his intention to become a citizen if the United States in his possession, Karl Frederick SCHUBERT, formerly of Breslau, Germany, feels safer today than he has for the last few months, during which time he was taken from a merchant vessel on which he was a sailor, by a British warship, confined in an Australian prison camp, escaped, and at last, by smuggling himself aboard the Norwegian steamer Sommerstadt out of Sidney, arrived in the United States,
SCHUBERT’s certificate was issued to him yesterday afternoon when he called at the City Hall, accompanied by an official of the German embassy. SCHUBERT, who does not speak English, declared through an interpreter that he had seen enough of war.
