BREWERS TO REFUSE ALL CONCESSIONS
Attorney Declares Workers Will Not Be Allowed Short Shift in Slack Periods.
Differences between the employing brewers and the organized brewers, bottlers, and drivers became more grave today when Leon TOBRINER, attorney for the employers, said positively there would be no reply made to the men who have demanded that the local breweries be run on a half time schedule in slack periods, rather than have some of the men discharged and others work full time.
The present contract under which the men are working expires Friday, and it had been expected that a new agreement would be signed before that date. A. J. KUBLER, organizer of the brewery workers, is here from Cincinnati to aid in getting a new contract, and until the announcement by Mr. TIBRINER [sp.] today he and the other members of the employe’s commitee [sp.] had expected a reply to their demands at a meeting in Mt. TOBRINER’s office early this week.
This question has also been raised by Washington employes of out-of-town breweries, and two conferences were held today in the office of Joseph A. BURKHARDT, in the Corcoran building, who represents several Milwaukee and St. Louis breweries.
