CITY LIBERAL IN ITS G.A.R. CONTRIBUTION
Committee Collects $525 in One F Street Block - Big Store Gives $500.
Though no complete reports have been submitted by the subcommittee which have been canvassing the city, Col. Robert N. HARPER, chairman of the finance committee soliciting funds for the fiftieth anniversary encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic in Washington in September, is receiving encouraging reports daily.
Today Colonel HARPER was advised that the subcommittee soliciting on F street received pledges totaling $525 in the block between Twelfth and Thirteenth streets northwest.
Those raising the funds have been looking to department stores to contribute liberally, and that their expectations will be fulfilled was indicated today when announcement was made that one of the larger stores had donated $500.
Secretary Thomas GRANT, of the general G. A. R. committee, has received from Mrs. Mary A. JAMESON, national president of the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic, an auxiliary organization, a request for a reservation of 400 badges. This will be an unusually large attendance from this organization, as in the past its representation at encampments has been less than 300.
A meeting of the badge and souvenir committee has been for 3:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the Chamber of Commerce by Chairman GALLIHER. Mr. GALLIHER has added to the committee Capts. Albert H. VAN DEUSEN and Lucius GRIDLEY.
Chairman E. H. DROOP, of the music committee, has called a meeting of the committee for noon Tuesday.
