Lands for Sale – Estate of Joseph Montfort
Halifax Town, North Carolina, April 19, 1776. For Sale on Moderate terms and long credit, sundry tracts and parcels of land lying in this Province, viz., one tract in Tryon County, commonly called the "Great Cove," containing 6000 acres of as fine land as any in the Province, is within 60 miles of Salisbury, a town of considerable trade. Also about 2,000 acres in said County on Chintal Run, equally as good as the former, both noted for the goodness of range. One Tract in Orange County within 9 miles of Hillsborough containing 140 acres, very good for corn, wheat, or tobacco. One tract in Bute County on Shocco Creek within 40 miles of Halifax Town, containing about 3,000 acres. As fine tobacco may be made on the land as any in the world, and it is excellent for corn or wheat, with enough cleared, and in good order, to work twelve hands. Also about 5000 acres more in different parts of said county, very good for tobacco or grain. Likewise, 4000 acres in this county, within 15 miles of Halifax Town, which is very good for grain, and excellent range for stock of all kinds. Also a tract within 4 miles of Edenton, situate on Albemarle Sound, commonly called Mosley's Point, containing 22 acres, good for tobacco or grain, and very convenient to shipping, with good improvements thereon, and cleared land sufficient work 20 or 30 hands. Also sundry other tracts in Northampton, Bertie, and Martin Counties, situate on navigable rivers, and very good for grain. Likewise houses and lots, well improved, in Halifax Town, Campbellton and Newbern. Any person inclinable to purchase any of said tracts of land or houses and lots may know the terms by applying to the subscriber. The above lands, &c., belong to the estate of Joseph Montfort, deceased, and to be sold by Henry Montfort, Executor.
