REV. HENRY M. JACKSON
He Has Been Elected Assistant Bishop of Alabama
MONTGOMERY, Oct. 31. – The special Council of the Diocese of Alabama, in session at Selma, elected Rev. Henry M. Jackson assistant Bishop of Alabama. Rev. Robert S. Barrett of Atlanta, was nominated by the clergy over Dr. Brown, of St. Luke’s Church, New York City, and Dr. Jackson, of Grace Church, Richmond, Va. The clergy retired and the laymen held a secret session to confirm the nomination if they saw fit. After a three hours session they rejected Rector Barrett. The Episcopal Council then nominated Rev. Dr. Henry Melville Jackson, of Grace Church, Richmond, Va. Dr. Cobbs, the secretary of the council, has sent a telegram to Dr. Jackson, notifying him of his election. It is not known yet whether Dr. Jackson will accept the place. Bishop Wilmer appointed the following committee to notify him of his election by letter: Revs. R. W. Barnwell, J. Lancaster, and Walter Dye.
