Extraordinary Case of Longevity in Liverpool
There is now in Liverpool a singular person named Elizabeth Roberts, or "Betty Roberts," as she is familiarly termed by her acquaintances, who, according to her own statement, was born in Northop, Flintshire, in June 1749, or in the 22nd year of the reign of George II. She has thus reached 110 years, and from present appearances it is possible she may survive many years longer. "Betty" resides at the back of St. Martin's Market, Scotland Road, and almost every fine day she may be seen on the South Landing stage, or about the markets and other public places in the town. The Landing stage is her principal resort on Sunday afternoons where she generally attracts round her a few coppers, although, it ought to be states, she never solicits charity. Her frame is shrunken and withered, but still she is erect and steady in gait, and with stick in hand she boasts that she can yet manage to walk three miles an hour. She attributes her extended life in a measure to her simple habits and states that she has never used any intoxicating liquors.
