Description: Duel Between Major Waddell and Mr. Phillips

Date: July 26 1873

Newspaper published in: Memphis, TN

Page/Column: Page 2, Column 2

We received, about ten o'clock last night, the following rather meagre and unsatisfactory dispatch, having alluded to a duel anticipated to come off between Major Waddell, and Mr. Phillips, the uncle of one of the principals, at Opelika, by Mr. Hooper, and circumstances connected with the affair:
COLUMBUS, GA., July 24
Expected news from duel has not arrived. Dispatch from Eufaula says parties left this morning at four o'clock for Florida line bound to fight. Persons in Eufaula tried to bring about a compromise, but failed.--Montgomery Mail.
