Prospects of a Lynching in McLean County, Illinois
BLOOMINGTON, Ill., Nov. 28. A posse is scouring the eastern portion of McLean County in search of a tramp who assaulted, choked and best Mrs. Spurrier, the wife of a prominent farmer near Saybrook. While Mrs. Spurrier was alone in the house which is isolated, the tramp entered and asked for food.
Mrs. Spurrier turned to get victuals, when the tramp struck her, seized her and demanded money. She said she had none, and the villain then choked and beat her. Finally Mrs. Spurrier told him there was money up-stairs in a bureau drawer, and as soon as the tramp started up-stairs, she ran out of the house. The excitement is so intense that there is likely to be a lynching should the tramp be caught.
