Ex-Gov. Thos. H. Watts of Montgomery has announced himself as a candidate for the United States Senate to succeed Senator Pugh. Gov. Thos. Seay is also a candidate. The fight promises to be a warm one.

Montgomery Received the First New Bale To-day
Montgomery, Ala., Aug. 2.—The first bale of Alabama cotton, from the plantation of Peyton R. Hall of Montgomery county, was sold to-day at 21 1-2 cents. It classed strict middling, and was purchased by the new Alabama Warehouse.
