Description: Heroic Wife. Mrs. GRIGGS Saves Husband at Risk of Life When Others Fled.

Date: August 26 1908

Newspaper published in: Columbia, KY

Hardin, Ill., Aug. 19.

After the other guests, men and woman, had fled, Mrs. Edward B. GRIGGS of Jerseyville, Ill., dragged her husband from the blazing Otter Creek clubhouse, on the Illinois river near here, and with her bare hands beat out the fire that was flaming from his oil-saturated clothes. GRIGGS was burned from head to foot and his injuries are believed to be fatal. The fire was caused by the explosion of a lamp which GRIGGS was carrying.

The clubhouse, which is the property of wealthy St. Louisans, was completely destroyed. The loss is estimated at $5,000.
