Holy Week in Holy Trinity Church is Georgetown will be in keeping with the custom that has followed for nearly one hundred years, the service, especially that of the “Tenabrae,” Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings, being under the control of the faculty of Georgetown College. The solemn chanting of the Mitins and Lauds on these evenings by the many Jesuit priests of the college has always been a marked feature of the Lenten season at Holy Trinity and this year will be led by President A. J. DONLAN.
Palm Sunday at 11 o'clock the blessing of the palms and the procession around the church by the clergy and acolytes, with music by the vested choir under Prof. Ernest BODIN, will usher in the most impressive service of the church. The distribution of the palms follows the blessing, the faithful holding them aloft during the reading of the Gospel. The choir will sing Charles GOUNOD's “Jerusalem,” Master Joseph SCHECLE being soloist. William CURTIN will sing the “PALMS” with a choir of sixty male voices.
At the vesper service at 7:30 o'clock, in addition to the rendering of the figured vesper service, the choir will also sing a cantata: “By Babylon Wan,” by GOUNOD, with solos by William CURTIN, Philip KING, James E. COOK, and Joseph SCHECLE.
On Tuesday the Sociality of the Blessed Virgin Mary will hold its meeting for the chanting of the Psalms, congregational singing and remarks by Father P. H. BRENNAN.
On Wednesday evening at 7:30 o'clock the lamentations of the “Tenebrae” will be recited by the clergy, and as the Matins are rather long there will be no sermon, but the congregation will all join in the solemn adoration of the true presence.
On Maundy Thursday the mass will be at 9(?) o'clock, when the Sacred Host is carried in solemn procession to the repository. In the evening the “Tenebrae” will ???? be chanted by the clergy. The sermon, the subject of which is the “Institution of Holy Eucharist,” will be preached by one of the fathers from the college.
On Good Friday the mass of the “Presanctified” will be at 8 a. m. Station of the cross at 3 o'clock with the final “Tenebrae” at 7 o'clock. The sermon in the evening will be preached by Rev. Thomas BOYLE, of St. Francis Xavier Church, New York. The adoration of the cross will close the service.
