CHEST OF MONEY FOUND
-------
Mrs. Parker Unearths Treasure While Sweeping Her Yard
-------
AMERICUS, Ga., April 20.—Mrs. William Parker, residing near Americus, has stumbled upon a fortune. While sweeping her yard, the broom caught in an obstacle, partly unearthed by recent rains, which proved to be a rusted and decayed iron box containing a solid block of money, two inches in thickness. The bills are mildewed with age and so compressed together that their value cannot be determined, though they are probably worth several thousand dollars.
Nobody knows when or by whom the treasure was buried, but the general supposition is that the money was probably concealed during the civil war and its whereabouts forgotten.
