A remarkably lucky “old tar” was Capt. Nathaniel H. Falkner, of Biddeford, Me., who the other day sold the schooner Messenger, his last vessel, and retired from business at the age of sixty-nine. When nine years old he went to sea and has been on the ocean steadily ever since. For the last forty years he has been a captain, during which time he has never lost a man, never had a man die at sea, never lost a spar or sail, and never called upon the underwriters for a cent of insurance money.
