A Burglar Blown Up
A story comes from Geesbend, in Wilcox County, Ala., of the strange death of a burglar.
William Mack started to burglarize the store of John Pettaway. After he had gained entrance to the store he got a cigar and lighted it, and then went to work deliberately gathering up stuff he wanted. He went near a keg of powder, and a spark from his cigar exploded the powder. He was blown in the air. Pettaway heard the explosion, and was just in time to hear Mack recite the story before dying.
