John HIVELY, a structural steelworker of Marion, Ind., was killed by the breaking of a steel cable of the crane used in hoisting large pieces of steel for the framework of the nine story hotel being built at Joplin. HIVELY was riding on a large beam being hoisted by the crane and when he was about 35 feet above the ground the cable snapped. He tell with the load and his skull was crushed.
