HENRY GEORGE, the great single tax advocate and candidate for mayor of Greater New York, died suddenly of paralysis on the 31st.
MRS. GROVER CLEVELAND gave birth to a son on the 29th.

Mr. C. W. Young, of Ripley, is among our cotton buyers.
Jesse Bell returned Tuesday from a business trip to Texas.
Mr. Hugh Arnold, a good friend of ours from Springhill, gave us an appreciated call Wednesday.
Sheriff Simmons has appointed Mr. C. J. Bolen jailor to succeed Mr. E. D. Seale, resigned.
Our old friend, Mr. Marion Andrews, of Friendship, was a pleasant visitor to THE BANNER Monday.
Good, steady rains Sunday and Monday, with fair, cool weather and frosty mornings the balance of the week, has given us all that could be desired in weather lately.
The many friends of our genial conductor, Walter C. Harris, will be glad to know that his condition is much improved, and that he will soon be able to assume his duties and responsibilities to the travelling public.óRipley Sentinel.

To the Honorable Board of Supervisors of said county: I hereby tender my resignation as Coroner and Ranger, this the third day of November, A. D., 1897.
