Montgomery.—The first woman to be named as the chief of a branch of the state government, is Mrs. Loraine B. Bush, of Birmingham, selected by Governor Thomas E. Kilby as director of eh Alabama child welfare department, which was created at the last session of the legislature. Mrs. Bush is an attache of the national child labor commission, and at one time was state factory inspector.
