Birmingham Ledger
It was announced by Dr. Preston Blake, pastor of the South Side Baptist church yesterday morning that the beautiful new house of worship which is now nearing completion will be dedicated on October 8, Dr. George W. Truett, pastor of the First Baptist church of Dallas, Tex., preaching the dedication sermon.
This church has been erected at a cost of about $45,000 to the congregation and is conceded to be one of the prettiest if not the handsomest edifice in the city. The architecture reverts back to the old style church building, and the massive marble columns are an oddity to the present class of church buildings in Birmingham.
Dr. Truett is one of the most magnificent pulpit orators in the bounds of the Southern Baptist convention, he being a prominent facto in every meeting of that body, and his ability as a preacher is far famed.
