Mayor Sharpe, of Chattanooga, Tenn., broke ground in the presence of thousands, for the Chattanooga, Rome & Columbus railroad, 246 miles in length. It gives an additional line to the seaboard. Chattanooga subscribed $100,000, but New York parties furnished the bulk of the capital.
