Mr. Owen T. Holmes, who has devoted nearly two years in the examination of Alabama mineral resources, for himself and others, has purchased about 40,000 acres of coal lands in DeKalb, Etowah, Jackson and Marshall counties, most of it on Raccoon Mountain. The property contains two seams of forty-two and fifty-one inches, pronounced by experts to be fine coking coal. Steps are being taken for the immediate development.
