JOHN EDMUNDSON, a prosperous farmer living six miles west of Sterling, Kan., was sitting in the front room of his house cleaning his repeating rifle when by some mischance the weapon was discharged, the bullet passing upward through the ceiling. A heavy fall in the upper room was heard a second later and Edmundson rushed to the second story and pushing open a door against which some heavy body was almost crazed to find his wife lying on the floor dead with a bullet in her right temple. The poor woman had been cleaning the rom a few moments before the fatal shot was fired, and it is supposed that she was leaning over brushing a chair when the fatal rifle ball passed through the floor and, without warning pierced her head, causing instant death.
