Lewes Delaware August 22, 1940 :
Captain S. Newlson Gibble, age 80, died of pneumonia in Marine Hospital of Baltimore, August 21, 1940, following an operation for an ailment that had kept him an invalid for several years. He had been in the Baltimore Hospital three weeks.
Captain Gibble had been before the mast fifty five years, during the windjammer era as a trawler captain with the manhaden
business of Lewes. He had retired thirteen years ago and lived in Lewes with his wife, former Gertrude Lynch, a daughter of
the first keeper of the Breakwater House in which many seamen spent vacations
Survivors are his wife, Marie, now the Mrs Carl Keener of Baltimore, and a son Henry, two grandchildren.
His body was brought to Lewes late Thursday the 22 and his funeral was Friday the 23 by Atkins Funeral Home conducted by
Rev. Howard Davis with burial in Methodist Cemetery of Lewes.
