Lewes, Delaware 19 October 1940:

Luther Rhodes Vessels, Sr., age 75, marine engineer and shipbuilder died today at hisLewes home, having been invalid the past

four years with diabetic ailments.

He was a son of the late Myers B. and Harriett Anne Hazzard.

He had a general mercantile and hardware store on 2nd Street in Lewes.

In addition to his wife, former Emma Jones of Kent county, he is survived by two sons, W. Allen and Luther R., Jr., Lewes,

a daughter, Mrs Walter Kelk, Wilmington, a brother, Orlando of Lewes, three grandchildren, Walter and Carol Kelk, and Sarah

Emily Vessels.

Funeral service was at Atkins Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. C. H. Atkins of Zion Maryland and Rev Branford, Lewes. Burial

was in the church yard of Conley's Chapel Methodist Church, Angola.
