SMOKED WHLE ROBBING A STORE
His Cigar Ashes Fell In a Keg
of Ponder, and He Was Killed.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Dec. 28.—William Mack paid a peculiar penalty tor burglary at Gees-bend, Wilcox County, Ala., last night. About midnight he broke into John Pettway's general merchandise store, and proceeded to ransack the place.
He took a cigar from the showcase and lighted it while he did his work of invoicing the stock and taking what he wanted. As he walked about through the rear of the store, some ashes from his cigar fell into an open keg of powder.
The explosion which resulted blew the building to pieces and threw the burglar a hundred feet away. He died this morning.
