Mr. W. J. Carr, Asst., Supt. R. M. S., agent of the government, with headquarters for the present at Jackson, was in the city Thursday for the purpose of arranging to let the contracts for carrying the mails on the three star route lines our of Water Valley. One of the routes is from Water Valley, by Nolen, Leggo and Hatton to Gatewood, returning direct to Water Valley; another is from Paris to Water Valley, and the third is from Water Valley to Pine Valley. The service on each of the routes is six times a week. By a recent order of the department, the contractor on star routs must live on or continuous to the route, and is intended to secure a better and more responsible class of contractors. Any responsible person may bid for the contract. Blank forms for bids and specific information may be obtained by applying to Postmaster Leland.
