Who Raises Cabbages, Potatoes and Hay
Mr. C. R. Ashley is a model farmer, who resides on the line of the Mobile road five miles from town. Mr. Ashley has raised and shipped this season ten car loads of Irish potatoes and five car loads of cabbages, and has saved two hundred tons of German millet hay. Mr. Ashley raises twenty tons of cabbage to the acre and this year he planted five acres. Next season he will plant twenty-five acres in cabbage, having found the crop very profitable. He has sold to one house of Gay, Hardie & Co., of Montgomery, 500 bushels of millet seed, and he could sell his hay in a lump at fifteen or eighteen dollars a ton. He has a hay press and presses his own hay into beautiful bales.
Mr. Ashely is a model farmer and he makes his money. Montgomery County has a number like him. Alabama ought to have many thousand Ashleys.—Montgomery Advertiser. .
