Description: Major Morgan’s Visit to TNDate: February 14 1878
Newspaper published in: Bolivar, TN
Page/Column: Page 3, Column 2
MAJOR JERRY MORGAN returned a few days since from his plantation in Benton County, Miss., and as usual gave us a call, which we enjoyed. Such old gentlemen in the interesting information they convey are valuable volumes, full of anecdote and history. The Major tells us of his having heard President Polk make his maiden effort at the bar in Maury County and that his first political speech was made to the old 46th Tennessee Regiment, to which Major Morgan was attached as an officer. He and the late Squire Mask were playmates together in Montgomery County, North Carolina. How greatly these venerable landmarks will be missed. They are the best part of our society—old wine is the best.
