Montgomery County of this State presents the unusual enormity of a child only eight years of age, who is a murderer. Andrew Hill, a colored boy, horribly beat and drowned the twenty months old child of Martha Hooks, colored. He killed the child to keep from nursing it, hacking it in a most brutal way, with a knife. How far is a child of eight years responsible for such a crime?
We congratulate Mr. W. W. Screws upon the great improvement he has seen fit to make in his always valuable newspaper, the Montgomery Advertiser, which now appears in the same form as the American Avalanche, Chattanooga Times, Birmingham Age and other leading Southern dailies. Especially do we congratulate the Capitol city of Alabama, that she has so increased in enterprise and has advance so far on the highway of progress as to warrant Mr. Screws in making this additional, marked outlay to meet the requirements of his patrons.
