Description: Ben Howard Shot Three Times Resisting Arrest

Date: November 19 1885

The Montgomery Advertiser of Nov. 14, has the following special: “PIKE ROAD, ALA., Nov. 14—Ben Howard, alias William White, colored, while resisting arrest here to-day, was shot three times by Dr. B. E. McGehee. The wounds are considered serious, but not necessarily fatal. In the absence of bailiff, Dr. McGehee, who is himself a magistrate, went to attest White, who is charged with cattle stealing. The negro resisted and accepted the consequences.” All of which constitutes the most overwhelming argument against any “Pike Roads!”
