Call for a State Convention
At a meeting of the Democratic and Conservative State Executive Committee at Montgomery, Wednesday, February 24, Hon. N. H. R. Dawson (who is a candidate for Governor) tendered his resignation as Chairman and Hon. H. C. Thompkins was chose Chairman. The voted by which the place of meeting of the State Convention was selected was; for Montgomery 18, for Mobile 2. The following is the text of the address:
MONTGOMERY, ALA., Feb. 24, 1886
To the Democratic and Conservative Voters of Alabama:
A convention of our party is called to assemble in Montgomery, on Wednesday, the second day of June, 1886, at 12 o’clock A.M., for the purpose of nominating candidates for the various state offices, and for such other business as may come before it. The basis of representation adopted by the committee, is one of every two hundred votes, and one for each fraction over one hundred votes cast in a county for the candidate of our party for governor, at the general election in 1884. On this basis the counties will be entitled to delegates respectively as follows:
