About two weeks ago, Mr. Tom Culver, living about three miles southwest of here, while hauling wood had his leg fractured and crushed just above the ankle. Dr. West, the family physician, was promptly summoned and set he broken limb, which apparently was rapidly healing until about one week after the accident, when it was found the mortification had set up. Amputation was accordingly resorted to, as the only means of saving his life, and on last Thursday, the attending surgeon, assisted by Drs. Rountree and Hunter, amputated the injured limb. Reaction, however, failed to set up, and two hours after the operation, the unfortunate gentleman died.—Hartselle Index.
