MONSTER RATTLESNAKE KILLED HERE
-------
Elbert Hoover of the Guy Furniture Co., over on Jefferson Street holds the local record for killing the largest rattlesnake in this section for this season at least up to date. Mr. Hoover came to the office of the Daily Times this morning and reported that he had killed a rattlesnake measuring five feet and two inches after a terrible battle near the big gate entrance to the McCormick place on Meridianville pike. The snake carried 19 rattlers and the button. Coiling up the snake pounced upon Mr. Hoover’s horse, hanging in the harness but only scratched the animal. A negro with a fence rail knocked the monster off the animal and while in the act of springing from a quickly formed coil to strike the negro, Mr. Hoover says he shot it with his pistol four times. As a reward to the negro, the snake was turned over to him to be skinned and the hide used for whatever purpose the negro wanted.
