MORGAN’S CONGRESSIONAL PRIMARY
It Will Take Place Next Saturday, August 7.
Meeting of the Executive Committee
Pursuant to a call from the Chairman, the Executive Committee of the Democratic party of Morgan County met at Hartselle Wednesday, July 18th. Present: J. B. West, Chairman; F. J. Troup, Secretary; L. Hensley Grubbs, John S. Mitchell, H. C. Barclay, E. J. St. John, S. E. Russell, Cal. Johnson, J. R. Cain, S. A. Sparkman and H. A. Hurt, by proxy.
Dr. West called the meeting to order, after which T. L. Simpson and W. M. Flack respectively from Lawrence’s Cove and Wolf Springs beats were elected members of the Committee from said beats. A letter from C. C. Harris, chairman of the Executive Committee of the 8th Congressional district, saying, if agreeable to the wishes and requested by the Executive of Morgan County, the Congressional Convention would be changed from the 17th of August to the 31st of August was read. The following resolution was then offered and passed without a dissenting voice.
Resolved. That the Executive Committee of the Democratic party of Morgan County do not desire ore request the Executive Committee of the 8th Congressional district to change the time of holding the Convention of said 8th District from the 17th of August.
J. B. West then tendered his resignation as chairman and as a member of the Executive Committee, which was accepted. S. H. Morris was then election a member of the committee from Hartselle beat. F. J. Troup was then elected chairman of the committee and then resigned as secretary, and L. Hensly Grubbs was elected secretary of the committee. S. E. Russell moved that Saturday, 7th of August, be fixed as a day for holding a primary elected to elect delegates to the Congressional Convention, which was passed unanimously.
The following resolution was also offered and passed:
Resolved. That hereafter the meetings of the Executive Committee of the Democratic party of Morgan County, when called officially, shall be held in the court house at Somerville.
The Secretary was instructed to notify the State Executive Committee of the change of officers of this Committee, after which the Committee adjourned sine die. The Executive Committee of the county is as follows: L. Hensly Grubbs, Jno. S. Mitchell, F. J. Troup, H. C. Barclay, M. F. Patterson, T. _. Simpson, S. E. Russell, Cal. Johnson, J. R. Cain, S. H. Morris, H. A. Burt, James T. Fennell, S. A. Sparkman, E. J. St. John, W. M. Fleck.
