Description: Killebrew and Company Search for Ore

Date: September 2 1886

Page/Column: Page 2, Column 5

Mr. J. B. Killebrew, an expert geologist of Nashville, arrived in the city last week, in company with Mr. J. F. Du Bois and Capt. Matt Todd, Jr. They went up into Marshall County to investigate the probable supply, quantity and quality of iron ore a short distance above Guntersville, and Messrs. Killebrew and Du Bois are now up there making excavations to determine the extent of the veins. Captain Todd is of the opinion that the ore is of sufficient quantity and quality to supply a large furnace and he is also confident that if the people of this vicinity will give proper options on the lands needed, there is little doubt but that the furnaces will be put up at Decatur. These gentlemen are here for business, and they mean business, and, we trust the people of this vicinity will give them the proper assistance.—Decatur Tennessee Valley.
