While rolling at Ninth and Channing streets, Herman Fambro, 5 years old colored, living with his parents at 1368 Channing Street, was run over by a heavy truck and fatally injured shortly after 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He was taken to his home and later was sent to the receiving hospital, where he died from a basal fracture of the skull.
The lad was rolling his hoop across the street with some playmates and in trying to catch his hoop before it fell beneath a wagon, he slipped under the rear wheel of a truck. Before the driver could stop the horses the heavy wheel passed over the boy’s head and his skull was fractured.
He lived nearly four hours after the accident.
The father of the boy accompanied him to the receiving hospital, and when he was told by the surgeon that there was no hope for his son, he broke down and wept.
