REPUBLICAN COUNTY CONVENTION.


June 14, 1873, Waukon, Iowa.
The convention was called to order by J.W. THOMAS, Esq., chairman County central committee. After the reading of the call on the motion of R. ISTED, J.W. THOMMS was dule elected chairman of the temporary organization, and on the motion of J. T. METCALF, F.M. McCORMACK was elected temporary secretary. On the motion of John RAYMOND the chair appropriated the following named members to act as a committee on [illegible]. John RAYMOND, J.G. ORR and [?] NEWELL. Mr. NEWELL declined and the chair appointed to his place Mr. STOWE, of Postville.


On motion the temporary organization was made permanent. On motion of R. REED, a committee was appointed consisting of R. ISTED, J.T. METCALF, W.B. McNUTT, [?H] SMEBY and F.M. McCORMACK to select the names of eight persons as delegates to attenD the State Convention, [illegible names] B. BASCOM, A. CAVERS, G.H. HAINES, Robert CRAWFORD and ?.R. JACKSON.


Alternates: C.H. BURGESS, J.T. METCALF, N.A. NELSON, P.I. PIERCE, A.R. PRESCOTT, J.S. MOST, H.E. McNUTT AND J.W. PRATT.


On motion of Mr. STOWE and accepted: Resolved that we have entire confidence in the ability, integrity and sound Republicanism of our fellow citizen, D.W. ADAMS, and that he is our first choice for the office of Lieut. Governor. Mr. ADAMS being called for came forward and spoke: "I will not attempt to deny that the high compliment which you have just paid me gives me great pleasure. After a residence of nearly twenty years among you, to receive such a marked testimonial of your esteem. Should the great Republican party of this State see fit to nominate and elect me to any office of trust, I assure you I will endeaver to perform the duties of that trust with fidelity to the people"


On motion the convention adjourned sine die. J.W. THOMAS, chairman; F.M. McCORMACK, secty.

On Tuesday, the 10th inst., C.E. TUTTLE, of Cresco, was charged with abstracting $30 from a letter registered in the Cresco post office.
