Held in High Esteem For Many Excellent Qualities and Amiable Disposition
Charles Donwell Johnson died at his home in this city,
Tuesday morning, Dec. 10th, of paralysis, aged 66 years, 3
months, 1 day. He was born in Nova Scotia in 1841 and his
early days were spent in Boston; when 11 years of age he
returned to Canada. He came to Oregon in 1865 and located
in this city, and was later married to Miss Elizabeth A.
B(R?)ash, and has lived here ever since. He was mayor of
this city, one year, and served as councilman for several
years. He had followed the blacksmithing and implement
business from the time he came to Oregon until about one
year ago, when he quit the business on account of failing
health.
Mr. Johnson had a wide acquaintance and enjoyed the
full confidence and respect of the people of Yamhill
County. He was a charter member of McMinnville Lodge A.F.
and A.U.W. He leaves a widow and two children, Mrs. Mary J.
Glenn, of San Francisco and Charles Edward Johnson of
Portland.
Funeral services will be held at the Christian church
this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be made in
Masonic cemetery under the auspices of the Masonic Order.
