Description: Negro Arrested For Assault

S H Brooks,colored Pullman porter on Santa Fe passenger train number 2 eastbound on Sunday morning is in jail here charged with attempting assault upon a lady passenger,twenty one years old, when the train was between Maxwell City and Raton. The young woman was travling alone,en route to Amazonia,Missouri. The woman's cries at once brought Conductor Ed Hays on the scene and others assisted him in overpowering the negro. he was turned over tonight to Marshal Curtis at the Santa Fe station. The man appeared to be more orless intoxicated. The aroused passengers were thrown into a panic and there was a lively time among them until the train crew quieted them. The negro was turned over to the sheriff and placed in the county jail. Conductor Hayes and the Pullman conductor will appear against the man. The woman although suffering from the shock was uninjured and proceeded on her jhourney.. She may return to act as a witness against the prisoner in the district court.
