Description: Oldest Woman Dies

Mrs Sarah Day,familiarly known as Grandma Day died today at the home of her daughter,Mrs J F Bryson says a Roswell dispatch of June 24th.She was 97 years of age and was one of the oldest women of the south and the oldest in New Mexico. She was the mother of 11 children,35 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.Her oldest daughter, Mrs J L Driscoll of Austin Texas age 76 is still living.
She had six sons who served in the Confederate army and only one was wounded.She was born in Rhea county Tennessee and moved to Texas in 1854 and moved here in 1901. She was never married but once and her husband drowned before the Civil War. It is said she was the first member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in the U S and firmly held that belief to the end.Her life was full of records of good deeds and she was in full possession of her faculties until a few hours before the end. The remains were shipped today to Austin for interment.
