A Las Vegas dispatch of May 24 says: The boiler of a Santa Fe engine hauling a heavy rock train blew up this afternoon near Springer and Engineer E W Davis of this city and Fireman J W Swisher of San Marcial were hurled high in the air and thrown lifeless and disfigured some distance away. The cause of the explosion is a complete mystery, but a thorough investigation will be held.
Fireman Swisher was the son of Mr Edwin Swisher, a prominent physician of Socorro. He was twenty one years old, unmarried and had just entered the service of the company.
