A Roswell dispatch of September 8th says;
Miss Alma Mounts, a seventeen year old girl,was burned to death this morning by the explosion of a gasoline stove she attempted to light at the residence of Dr C E Lukens, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. She ran madly from one room of the house to the other,fanning the flames.Dr Luekens, after much difficulty,succeeded in smothering the flames with a Navajo blanket,but was badly burned himself.
The girl was terribly burned about the face, neck,head, arms and other parts of her body and lived only five hours.The house caught fire and several hundred dollars damage was done, which is covered by insurance.
Mrs Edward Mount, the mother of the girl lives in Fort Worth,Texas and has been telegraphed for. Miss Mounts was a beautiful young woman and has made her home with the Lukens for three years.
