Alaska State Historical Library

Alaska State Historical Library maintains microfilmed newspapers from approximately 119 Alaska communities, dating back to 1866. Newspaper microfilm may be viewed at the library or may be borrowed through interlibrary loan.


Online Publications:

Guide to Alaska Newspapers on Microfilm, 1866-1998 - This guide lists cities in Alaska alphabetically followed by the newspapers published in that city. It also shows the newspapers publication dates, frequency of publication, editors, history and information on microfilm holdings for each newspaper.

Newspapers Listed by Title - This publication lists newspapers by their title and shows where each newspaper was published.

Chronologies of Alaskan and Regional Newspapers - This publication shows the timelines of newspapers published in Alaska.


Online Databases:

Fairbanks Area and Juneau Empire Newspaper Indexes - An online searchable database index containing over 200,000 items for Fairbanks from various dates from 1901 to 1975 and Juneau Empire from 1990 to 1999. Note this is an index only. You will need to refer to the actual newspaper microfilm for the complete article.
