Hon. Alexander M. DOCKERY, third assistant postmaster general, 70 years old today. Born in Daviess county, Missouri, February 11, 1845, Mr. DOCKERY gained his early education in the public schools and at Macon academy, Missouri. He studied medicine and was a prosperous physician in Chillicothe, Mo., for eight years. He then removed to Gallatin, Mo., where he aided in organizing a bank. He was deeply interested in education and he served on the board there for two years. In 1872 he was made curator of the museum at the University of Missouri. He removed to Gallatin, Mo., where he was elected to the city council and was mayor for two years. Next he went up to Congress, serving for 16 years. Up the ladder he went and was elected governor of Missouri, serving from 1901 to 1905. When President WILSON's cabinet was formed, Mr. DOCKERY was made third assistant postmaster general, in charge of post office finance, stamps, money orders, registered mails, classifications and postal savings.
