Lewes, Delaware, Wednesday April 19, 1933:
The beach patrols of the Coast Guard stations at Lewes and Cape Henlopen today picked up pieces of wreckage believed to have come from the Akron. At the Cape, a 10 foot section of catwalk was found, nearby , a tabletop was discovered and a window marked 'starboard #3' with the isinglass still intact. At Lewes station a large cushion was picked up by the patrol. The Lewes Coast Guard station reported that a 120 gallon aluminum gas tank with a date 'December 1930' washed ashore at Smith Island, Virginia, some 150 miles south of the Delaware Capes.
